Hello classmates my name is Josh if you didn't already know that by now (  (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ I'm done...), so anyways ill be telling you what we did in class which is 2 step algebra word problems.

Ill be using word problem questions 2 and 9 like the ones we did in class but ill put ONE into steps to make it more clear and simple.
(for the people who doesn't know how to make the word problem, well here you go)

#2)  Five more than one third of a number is -2. Find the number

Step 1. Highlight the question that is telling you.
Five more than one third of a number is -2. Find the number

Step 2. Write the blank sentence.
Five more than one third of a number is -2. Find the number

The number is ____.

Step 3. Write the "Let x" (lettuce)" statement below the blank sentence.
Five more than one third of a number is -2. Find the number

The number is ____.
 Let x = the number.

Step 4. Highlight all the math words.
Five more than one third of a number is -2. Find the number

The number is ____.
 Let x = the number.

Step 5. Write down the math words you've highlighted.
Five more than one third of a number is -2. Find the number

The number is ____.
 Let x = the number.

5 More (+5)
 1of a number

 3
 is -2 (= -2)

Step 6. Write it in a 2 step equation formation.
Five more than one third of a number is -2. Find the number

The number is ____.
 Let x = the number.

5 More (+5)              1x +5 = -2
 1of a number           3
 3
 is -2 (= -2)

Step 7. Solve the equation your own style(ex. right hand side solving).
Five more than one third of a number is -2. Find the number

The number is ____.
 Let x = the number.

5 More (+5)              1x +5 = -2-5
 1of a number            3        = 3(-7)
 3                                         = -21
 is -2 (= -2)
Step 8. Verify your answer and put the isolated variable in the blank sentence.
Five more than one third of a number is -2. Find the number

The number is __-21__.
 Let x = the number.

5 More (+5)              1x +5 = -2-5         x +5 = -2
 1of a number            3        = 3(-7)       3
 3                                         = -21          (-21) +5 = -2
 is -2 (= -2)                                                3                                                               -7 +5 = -2
                                                                -2 = -2

#9)  The length of a rectangle is 50 meters. This is 6 meters more than twice the width. Find the width.

The length of a rectangle is 50 meters. This is 6 meters more than twice the width. Find the width.

The width is _22m_m.

 Let w = the width.
                                            twice width (+)6m = Length
50m = length                       2w +6m = 50m-6m       2w +6m = 50m
6m more (+6)                       2        = 44m                 2(22m)+6m= 50m
Twice the width (2w)                           2                    44m +6m= 50
                                                        = 22m

Hopefully the people who don't get the right hand side solving I am sorry but you can do what ever you want other than that, also thank you for the people who will or I mean SHOULD comment on my scribe post so thanks. ( ͡°╭͜ʖ╮͡° )( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)( ͡°╭͜ʖ╮͡° )

  2. Great Scribe Post Josh. You have everything in your Scribe Post for it to be successful but I think you went a little overboard on your highlighting. Besides that you did a fantastic job.
